MnSCU Faculty Discipline Meeting
Cragun’s Conference Center, April 19, 2002

Accounting Discipline Report Summary
Facilitators: Grover Cleveland, Leo Christensen, Linda Meidl

Transfer issue/problem one:

Principles of Accounting I and II does not transfer consistently from two year colleges to four year colleges and universities.

Strategy(s) to address transfer issue/problem one:

  • Establish a task force of Accounting faculty from technical colleges, community colleges, consolidated community-technical colleges, and state universities to develop a platform of transferable course objectives, along with a process to document that the student met the objectives.
  • Present to statewide Accounting group for approval. (MN. Council of Accounting Educators meet in the spring of every year and Accounting faculty at this meeting suggest organizing their discipline discussions to coincide with this spring convention.)

Transfer issue/problem number two:

Courses lack comparability of course content, i.e., content differs for courses with similar names.

Strategy (s) to address transfer issue/problem two:

  • See strategy above.

Transfer issue/problem number three:

Confusion exists between upper versus lower division coursework and which should be taught by two year colleges.

Strategy(s) to address transfer issue/problem three:

  • Tabled until first two issues addressed.
