As a student thinking about transferring,
it is important that you make sure the courses you are taking
transfer to your next college or university. The courses you
take should:
- satisfy graduation
requirements (program/degree/major requirements)
- meet accreditation requirements
- satisfy general education
requirements (MnSCU
and U of M), a specific
set of courses encompassing 10 goal areas (40 credits) which
satisfy the general education component of any degree program
at 4-year MnSCU institutions. The
University of Minnesota also recognizes the MnTC as fulfilling
the lower division general education component of its degree
programs; in addition, students in all degree programs must
complete a writing intensive set of requirements. (Meet
with advisor/counselor at your college to determine which
classes fit general education requirements).
If you
plan to transfer to a private college or out-of-state, find
out the general education requirements as early as you can.
If
you are undecided regarding your academic goal, check out
career counseling at your college to help determine an appropriate
major. Also, go to "Find
a Program" to see where various
majors are offered in MnSCU, go to Minnesota
Private Colleges for a list of programs,
or the University
of Minnesota programs for all campuses.
To be sure the courses will transfer,
contact your transfer specialist, counselor or advisor at
your present college and/or the college you are considering
for transfer.
Check out the list of transfer
specialists; they can be an important part of your transfer
success. The role of transfer specialist differs from campus
to campus; this person may be a counselor, advisor, registrar
or designated transfer staff.

information, campus contacts and campus websites.
