Bachelor of Applied Science Degrees

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degree was adopted to assist students who have transfer credits from a technical college, technical degree, or technical program transfer those courses into baccalaureate programs. You can use this information to understand the degree and to research Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and University of Minnesota articulated Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) degrees.

Description of the Degree

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) is a baccalaureate degree with a major in a technical area with substantial applied content. When a student completes a technical program at a sending college, that technical program will transfer toward completion of the BAS degree, often in accordance with articulation agreements between participating colleges and universities. A BAS program can be designed to incorporate applied content through various pathways, including collaboration with a community or technical college with block transfer of credits, transfer of credits on a course-by-course basis, or credits for experiential learning.

Although articulation with any institution is permissible, Minnesota State Colleges & Universities will most likely form partnerships with colleges and universities with similar programs. The BAS degree (the B.A.Sc.) from the University of Minnesota is not articulated with Minnesota State Colleges & Universities.

Formal articulation agreements are advisable when collaboration involves articulation of programs. Search for existing BAS articulation agreements for specific information.

Whenever feasible, the design of a BAS program should take advantage of opportunities for flexible sequencing of courses and demonstrated competencies.

Minnesota State Colleges & Universities and University of Minnesota BAS Degrees

Many courses from Minnesota State Colleges & Universities transfer to the University of Minnesota Bachelor of Applied Science degree (B.A.Sc.) in Construction Management, Information Technology Infrastructure, or Manufacturing Technology.
